Oedipus Rex: Character Analysis & Mask Name:______________________

Directions: In class, we have read Oedipus Rex and have learned about the different characters in the play. Applying your knowledge of the personality traits the characters in this play possess, you will write a character analysis and create a traditional Greek mask that expresses one of the character’s dominant qualities.

1. First, pick your character and list three dominant personality traits below. Also, explain how you know your character possesses these traits:

2. Next, write a strong topic sentence and find three interesting quotes (concrete details) from the play to support your topic sentence. Use the TS/CD template for this and make sure you start your TS with a subordinating conjunction (include a subject and arguable opinion).

3. After your TS/CD template has been approved, start writing your 5-part paragraph character analysis in GoogleDocs.

4. Print out a copy for peer-editing. Make corrections to your paragraph after peer-editing.

5. Share your revised draft with me at BronemannEnglish@gmail.com and title it with your name & class period (i.e. Adam5). Check back on GoogleDocs for comments and corrections to be made.

6. Time to create your character mask. You can make the mask out of whatever materials you choose. Make sure, though, that the materials you select are in someway representative of your characters. For example, if you choose to do Jocasta, you might decorate your mask with feathers to show the way she “lightly” tries to ignore the truth.
