The effect of stem cell therapy on Hong Kong people in future

This essay is to demonstrate the impact of stem cell therapy on Hong Kong people within the next fifty years. Everyone will get old, and the degenerative diseases come together with the old age. Alzheimer’s disease is typical of the neurodegenerative disease, which is caused by the malfunction of the brain neurons, resulting in the damage of the brain area called hippocampus, which is responsible for the memories formation (ADEAR Center 2010). And the damage will spread to other regions, causing the shrinking of brain (ADEAR 2010). Therefore, people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease will also suffer mental confusion and long term memory loss (Waldemar et al. 2007). In severe case, patients will totally lose their abilities for daily living (National Institute on Aging 2009). That’s mean the number of people suffering Alzheimer’s disease will be increased from 110000 to 280000. To cure the disease, it is believed that stem cell therapy will be the saver of those patients. So, this essay will focus on how stem cell therapy can act as the saver of Alzheimer’s disease and what will be the influences of stem cell therapy on Hong Kong people. This essay will begin with the theoretical background of stem cell therapy, and followed by the application of therapy. The impact of therapy on Hong Kong people will then be discussed afterwards.
