Checkpoint Comparison of Three Sculptures

Three different sculptures of David were made by three different artists. The three artists were Michelangelo, Benin, and Donatello. Each artist shows a different look David, but all had the same concept of him.

Michelangelo’s sculpture of David was made in the Renaissance Period. This sculpture of him was before the fight of Goliath. Michelangelo carved the naked sculpture out of marble. This sculpture of David was huge. His body is bigger than the average man. This was popular in the Renaissance period. The David sculpture looked over the people, in which it seemed like he was a god or something. Michelango’s David was completely naked. He has no imperfections on his body.

Bernin’s sculpture of David was carved in the Baroque Period. This sculpture shows David during the fight of Goliath. Bernin’s sculpture was also made out of marble. He showed David’s “muscle tension and bone structure.” ("My Thoughts on The Three David’s ", 2009) The sculpture shows David wearing cloth, but wasn’t covering his or body and looked like it was barely on. Bernin tells more of David’s story than Michelangelo does. His sculptures, interacts with his surroundings, unlike Michelangelo’s sculpture of David. (Abee, 2009).

Last, but not least, Donatello’s sculpture of David. His sculpture was created in the Early Renaissance. His sculpture represented David after the Goliath fight. This sculpture was made out of Bronze. This sculpture has David wearing a hat and boots, while holding a sword. Unlike the others, this sculpture represented David has a young boy. Michelangelo’s and Bernin’s sculptures represented David has a grown man. This showed David has being an anti-hero rather than a fighter as shown in Bernin’s sculpture of David.
