8.1 Exercise Set
Find the first 4 terms, a^10, and a^15.
1. a^n = 4n – 1
First term – a^1 = 4 (1) - 1 = 3
Second term – a^2 = 4 (2) – 1 = 7
Third term – a^3 = 4 (3) – 1 = 11
Fourth term – a^4 = 4 (4) -1 = 15
a^10 = 4 (10) -1 = 39
a^15 = 4 (15) – 1 = 59
Plug in a^X into the given equation to solve.
8.2 Exercise Set
Find the first term and the common difference.
1.3, 8, 13, 18…
The first term (a^1) is the first term listed.
So, 3 is the first term.
The common difference (d) is found by get the first number and subtracting it by the next number to it.
d = 8 – 3 = 5
First term a^1 = 3 Common Difference (d) = 5
8.3 Exercise Set
Find the common ratio.
1.2, 4, 8, 16 …
Common Ratio = 2
To find the common ratio:
2 ( 2 / 4 = 2, 8 / 4 = 2, and so on) – divide the first number by the next to get the common ratio.
This week was very hard. lol No I’m just playing. This week was very simple, which was a surprising, because the last couple of weeks the problems and formulas were a little difficult. This week there wasn’t really a formula to try to understand, just trying to find the common number of the given problem.
Dr. Wade and classmate, I enjoy these last 5 weeks with you guys. At first the formulas was a little pain, but after going over them they wasn’t so bad. I wish everyone their best on their journey to higher learning.
