11-18 Adolescent

Young people experience much physical development in the form of growth and other changes, like hormones in their pre-teen years, their nutritional needs are different form adults own, their energy requirement may be too higher than adult, protein requirement may be too much than adult, they need more vitamins than adults and also females at this age need more iron, males needs more calcium for thickening bones, the water requirement for girls at this stage is 9.5 cups and 3/4 cups for adolescent boys, about 90% calcium in the body is found in bones and teeth, more intake of calcium throughout adolescence is important for proper mineralization of growing bones the daily calcium requirement is higher in boys than girls 1000mg per day for boys and 800mg per day for girls, vitamin B include B6, B2 and thiamin are important for many functions including breathing and use of carbohydrate and protein in the body food containing vitamin B include meat, cereals and vegetable. Adolescents need plenty of vitamins and minerals during their growth, as adolescent goes through physical changes, there are always increase needs for certain vitamins

As the calories intake increase the need for vitaminB1 also increases, carbohydrate gives them fuel for activity, growth and body functions, they contribute a significant number of calories to the diet, they are necessary for the brain to function, they help muscles and work better, example of carbohydrates we get from food are rice, maize, wheat and millet. Adolescent should be encourage to eat healthy diet, because parents have less influence on what they eat, adolescent obesity is often cause by as a result of a poor diet and lack of exercise, it is always good to encourage them to have exercise, also we have to advise them to eat well and balanced diet, if they don’t eat well, it can lead to nutritional deficiency and it can also lead to eating disorders the kcals intake per day for boys is 2220-2755 and girls is...
