RUNNING HEAD: Accuracy and Precision

Chemistry is a very important part of our society. Even when humans encountering the smallest things in life, there some processes that a chemist has study on a daily basis. In our readings I learned that even things that involve the sun can be associated with chemistry. For instance according to Tro (2009) “Molecules that interact with the sunlight, gets rid of the green and blue light and only leaves the orange and red lights to help create the colors.” For me knowing the sunrises have a process that has to do with chemistry is a big astonishment. But through it all chemistry starts with chemist having a better understanding of accuracy and precision.

Accuracy

When thinking about accuracy a chemist thinks about the exact value. Accuracy is not estimated figures but the figures that do not raise questions. In chemistry accurate results will not have a slight chance of showing error. When it comes to society we use accuracy in places like Home Depot or Lowes for the glass or lumber. We also use accuracy when we go to the grocery store for our meat or produce. When contractors start to build new homes, the contractors need the wood that they buy from the stores to be accurate when being cut. If the wood is not cut with accuracy it is possible for house frame and foundation to have stress because the supporting beams are not right. Since we also need to use accuracy in the grocery store because the prices for both are meat and produce is based on weight, this is because if the store used an estimate the store will most likely lose revenue because they are not making a profit off the meat and produce being sold. Precision is a big difference then being accurate.

Precision

Precision is an estimate or how close a person can get to a specific number, for instance I am about six feet away from the house. Telling someone I am about six feet away from the house is saying that I do not exactly know but I am taking a guess...
