Introduction

A community is people living together who have something in common like a shared belief system, residence, geographical area, class or position. The community where I currently reside in is called the Madonsa Township. It is in Manzini Swaziland. The residence is seen as a relatively elite and the neighbourhood is seen as upper class. There are beautiful houses, many businesses such a ‘Spar’ and a ‘Sasol’ garage, a private school and a church. The negative aspect of this community is that it is build very close to a rural area, which is also called Madonsa Township. Before all the elite houses and businesses were built this area was manly for the poor people. The land was sold to wealthy who built elaborate houses: The Madonsa Township is now a rich and poor community together. There are many wealthy people, but just as many poor people who live in the rural part of Madonsa. The poor people are struggling to find jobs. Those who are lucky to find jobs are paid very little. They get the low income jobs such as the cleaners or gardeners. These people struggle with their basic needs for themselves and their children. For this reason I have chosen poverty as my economic problem that my community currently faces. Poverty is a state that a person can be in when there is not enough money, food, shelter, clothes, and education (basic necessities) to survive.
