After doing my reading for this week, I have decided to do my discussion on the Multi-Baseline Research Design. The three types of this research design are as follows:
Multiple-baseline-across-subjects design
Multiple-baseline-across-behaviors design
Multiple-baseline-across-settings design
The multiple-baseline-across-subjects design is a baseline and treatment phase for the same target behavior of two of more subjects (Miltenberger, 2011). The multiple-baseline-across-behaviors design is a baseline and treatment phase for two or more different behavior of the same subject (Miltenberger, 2011). The multiple-baseline-across-settings design is a baseline and treatment phase for two or more settings in which the same behavior for the same subject is measured (Miltenberger, 2011). “A multiple-baseline design may be used (a) when you are interested in the same target behavior exhibited by multiple subjects, (b) when you have targeted more than one behavior of the same subject, or (c) when you are measuring a subject’s behavior across two or more settings” (Miltenberger, 2011). This research design can be useful when the A-B-A-B cannot be used (Miltenberger, 2011). This design is used in behavior modification to change behavior of more than one person or one person in different settings. For example, this may be useful for my son. There are a few different behaviors that I and my husband are trying to work on him with. Or this could be used in a group setting where there are many people trying to obtain the same behavior, such as a workplace where employees are being trained.
