Introduction

The manufacturing industry is an important party of Australian Economy. Manufacturing industry in Australia includes “units mainly engaged in the physical or chemical transformation of materials, substances or components into new products (except agriculture and construction)” (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2006). The industry employed 1.04 million people in 2010–11, representing 9% of the Australian workforce (Safe Work Australia, 2012).It is widely recognized that workers in manufacturing industry are exposed to high occupational and health risks which may lead to work related injuries or even fatalities. Evidence suggests the highest injury rate is found among the more manual, blue collar occupations groups such as Laborers and Machinery Operators and Drivers (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2011).
