When it comes to corrections in Georgia for adults and juveniles, I don’t think people know the similarities of the Department of Juvenile Justice and Department of Corrections versus the differences. Although the Georgia’s juvenile and adult systems are a workable plan for maintaining crime out the community and off the streets. The similarities and differences come to adult and juveniles agencies systems in Georgia. The legislative body have consider the appropriate age of an adult person is eighteen (18) in the State of Georgia, and at times, this is where the line gets drawn between being a delinquent juvenile or as convicted adult of a crime in the legal system. As long as a juvenile is being tried in a juvenile court and is delinquent of a criminal act there, they by law will not see the adult prison facilities until they turn the legal status of adulthood on their seventeen (17) birthday in State of Georgia if the crime requires them to do adult time. But the juvenile will be held by the juvenile code for the State of Georgia.

Similarities for each agency are great in numbers. Both agencies are headed by a commissioner who has the knowledge of the legal systems involving corrections and inmates. The commissioners of the agency are selected by Georgia Governor and approved by the agency board of directors. More similarities are that both corrections systems have policies and procedures and use incarceration to punish offenders; however juvenile offender receives more rehabilitation which is not the main plan for the adult corrections system. Rehabilitation is often use with adults on a case by case situation, but is often the main plan of juvenile justice system. It may seem that there is more incentive plan offered for juvenile delinquents.
