Fishing Stock

With as much fishing that has been done in the ocean, over the past few decades, the number of fish is decreasing quicker and quicker. I think being that fishing pays so well when you are good at it and are successful there are more and more people that have decided to do it. With that being said, I believe the ocean does not have the opportunity to bounce back as much as it once may have had. I think that there are changes that need to be done but it is going to take nothing but work and dedication from all the fisherman communities and the environmentalists among all the other people in the world. It won’t be an easy fix either but I think it can be done.

In the Declining Fish Stock VLR video, it visits the idea of closing off part of the ocean to try and help it gain back some resilience in trying to populate certain fish that have dwindled down so much over the years. The problem I feel the ocean is facing is that fisherman go out for months at a time, and cutting off a part of the ocean is not going to fix the issue. The ocean is a living thing and it’s a tool. We as humans have been taking advantage of what it offers us and ‘overfishing.’ I think something that would benefit all parties is to come up with a plan that fisherman are able to catch so many fish in so many months of the year and the rest of the year they remain off the ocean and let itself re populate again for the next years fishing.

I think that there needs to be a time of year that the ocean should be at rest and let the fish re populate so that we don’t have these dwindled numbers of fish that are in jeopardy of dying out all together. I believe it could possibly hurt the community for the source of sea food or other products used from these fish like cat food, certain oils, and delicacies in other countries. This in turn could even raise the price of fish and it would be more considered of a ‘seasonal’ enjoyment. This could possibly help the fisherman in the long run...
