Apple’s Use of Strategic Management

“Strategic management is the process of developing and executing a series of competitive moves to enhance the success of the organization both in the present and in the future (, 2010, p. 1).” Analyzing Apple Inc.’s aggressive history will unravel a slew of examples illustrating their irreproducible ability to adapt to, and in some cases create their own market. At the forefront of Apple’s success has been their ability to successfully integrate strategic management into their business model. Diligently involving strategic management has helped ensure that Apple outmaneuvered, and in some cases outlasted their competition for almost 3 decades.

It would be illogical to believe that Apple Inc. hasn’t experienced some setbacks along their much publicized path to success. However, Apple Inc. has remained steady in their efforts to continually analyze their market, construct objectives based of their analysis, and properly implement plans to capitalize on strengths identified in their analysis (, 2010, p. 1). While simple enough in philosophy, this basic breakdown of strategic management has been crucial to industry leading businesses everywhere. Apple Inc. just happens to be the model example of how incorporating strategic management can help ensure a firm successfully meets objectives and expectations.

Apple Inc. has substantially benefitted through their development of strategic management. In doing, they’ve become the Industry giant that they are today. Occasionally their competitive moves were the results of internal growth, and other times the marketplace triggered them into action. None the less, staying aggressive has been crucial to the lucrative success that Apple Inc. has enjoyed. One would have to look no further than their name itself to first illustrate an example.
