Because of the Declaration of Independence, Americans have the idea of the American Dream of “life, and the pursuit of happiness” that was promised to them. Over the years, we can see that this promise has taken effect in the lives of Americans with economic growth after the Great Depression brought up by the “New Deal”, along with the motivation of industrialization in WWII. Then, it also has the effects of failure such as the racial inequality against the people of color and gays. Due to this constant struggle of balance and power, America still seeks freedom, equality, and a better way of life for all.

Because of the Great Depression of 1929, the economy was in a downfall and lacked the qualities of freedom, equality and better living conditions. The people were suffering from unemployment, racism, and lived in over populated areas due to the Dust Bowl, which brought about migrates from the south.

As years progressed President Roosevelt issues the “New Deal” from 1933-1936, which was a set of policies that dealt with the Great Depression. The effects of the “New Deal” helped regulate banks, regulate stock market and create jobs. With acts such as the Glass-Steagall Act 1933, the government tried regulating banks by limiting how banks could get involved in the Stock Markets. The Social Security Act of 1935 was also major because it was a safety net for unemployed Americans because it issued checks from money that had grown from earlier jobs. It was seen as a retirement fund but did not apply to agricultural workers or maids. Then the government also developed the Securities and Exchange Commission, which was responsible for regulating the stock market. The groups such as the Civilian Conservation Corporation put 1 million people to work during the years of 1930s to early 40s. Mostly, it was young men who worked in rural conservations such as national forests. They had them plant trees, creating camp groups, and preserving America’s forest and nature....
