In the computer industry you see a lot of acronyms thrown around and you never know what they stand for. Well, here is one that usually puzzles people and that is; RFC or "Request for Comment.” A lot of people might think it stands for the abbreviation for Reference, but it isn’t. So, say you wanted to know what RFC is used to define HTML; you would want to look up RFC-1866. So, when you look it up it will tell you that RFC-1866 is used to set the “Internet standards track protocol for the Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements. “ Essentially, HTML is the “simple markup language used to create hypertext documents that are platform independent. HTML documents are SGML documents with generic semantics that are appropriate for representing information from a wide range of domains. HTML markup can represent hypertext news, mail, documentation, and hypermedia; menus of options; database query results; simple structured documents with in-lined graphics; and hypertext views of existing bodies of information. “To make what I just said a little easier to understand it is just saying that HTML is a standard for writing webpages and can be used to link us to news, mail, documents and even media files and can enhance any website significantly. From the research I found there are 5,098 RFC that we know of and it is always changing.

An Internet Draft is a series a series of working documents that is published by the Internet Engineering Task Force or IETF. However, they are used as “rough” drafts for RFC. Now, what’s nice about these is you can actually review these and comment on these before they are official.

The IETF is usually responsible for producing these documents for all to see and comment on.
