Evaluation

For this child study I had been asked to observe a child from 0-5 years old, I had to observe one area of P.I.E.S (physical intellectual emotional social) I observed ruby who is 3 and studied her fine manipulative skills, I would of rather observed a 3-6 month old child and observed there physical development, but ruby was the only child under five I could observe on a regular basis and lives next door to me so it is more relevant to visit her.

I am happy I choose fine manipulative skills as my area of development because ruby is at the age where she is starting to use her fingers in her everyday life, and also there are lots of activities related. I choose my task title because I didn’t want it to narrow down my choice of activies to do with Ruby, and there are lots of activities I could do which will answer my task title.

In the research and planning area I researched into fine manipulative skills of the nearby ages, so I could observe if ruby is developing more closer to a 2 year old or 4 year old, I feel I could of researched further.

Before I started observing ruby, I collected information from her mum because I then knew about how ruby acts in her everyday life, and what she can already do. This helped me to decide on the area of development I would study.

I then researched into 6 different areas of development and described them, this made me understand about each one in more detail. I then choose one area of development which I would study for the whole study which was fine manipulative skills as this suited Rubys age.

I then looked at resources which would help me research throughout my child study, i then thought about 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages about both which helped me when it came to picking which ones i would use. I also asked myself what i would use it for

because i thought that some of the resources could be un-useful and nothing to do with what i want to find out.
