Abstract

This paper will discuss and examine the National Initiative for Cyber Security Education. The value of the NICE framework will also be assessed, while discussing the importance of its framework in regard to the security profession and individual organizations while also determining the legal and ethical issues in the field of information security. Examples that illustrate the importance of the National Initiative for Cyber Security Education will also be provided with a description of the expected outcome. An evaluation of how organizations can implement the NICE framework to prevent internal and external attacks will be addressed.

Initiatives of NICE

The National Initiative for Cyber Security Education (NICE) mission is to enhance the overall cybersecurity posture of the United States by making the availability of educational and training resources designed to improve the cyber behavior, skills and knowledge of every segment of the population. NICE has evolved from the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative and extends is scope beyond the federal workplace to include civilians and students in kindergarten through post-graduate school. NICE goal is to establish an operational, sustainable and continually improving cybersecurity education program for the nation to use sound cyber practices that will enhance the nation’s security.

Value of NICE framework

The NICE framework was developed to define the cybersecurity workforce and provide a common taxonomy and lexicon by which to classify and categorize cybersecurity professionals. The framework provides a consistent way of defining the cybersecurity population using standardized terms.
