What does it mean to be reinstated? The Webster Collegiate Dictionary defines reinstate as, to restore a previous effective state, to place again. Based on this definition, I am asking to be placed in an effective state that would lead to academic excellence at Chicago State University.

What does it mean for CSU and me, the student? For CSU it means to continue to be recognized as an established learning institution among other schools of higher learning that offers second chances to those who have proven themselves worthy. CSU is an academic environment that prepares students for the rest of their lives, not just academically, but in a way that will enable them to continually quest for new knowledge. The institution also provides opportunities for success in the work place. As for me, it will allow me the opportunity to continue to grow academically, intellectually, and emotionally. In addition, it would provide upward career opportunities for advancement versus lateral movement.

I am petitioning to be reinstated at a university where my academic studies began. I would like to tell you that there were unusual circumstances that caused me to be in this situation, but I cannot. I can only tell you that the immature young lady that assumed that a college degree was just a mere piece of paper and what was important was to have a job and has discovered it is a mere piece of paper that is used to qualify one’s ability to learn and succeed. Although, I was gainfully employed at that time, I believed that I could climb the corporate latter solely based on my skills and knowledge of the company. To some extent that is true however, there is a ceiling for those who do not have the coveted college degree. With all of my professional knowledge and lack of academic completion, I can only go so far in my career; the two are interwoven for success.
