Terrorist Event Response Paper

Today, everyone can be affected by terrorism in some way shape or form. Terrorist can strike at any time with, with no warning and it does not matter if a population is big or small, if the location is a major minor city or the appeal factor. The only thing possible is to prepare and emergencies personnel in place to deal with a terrorist attack of any kind. According to Homeland Security, “throughout human history, there have been many threats to the security of nations. These threats have brought about large-scale losses of life, the destruction of property, economic stress and losses, and the displacement of large numbers of people” (Homeland Security, 2012). Terrorism has always been a systematic use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population which often had a particular political objective undertone behind the terrorist act. “Terrorism has been used throughout history by political organizations of both the left and right, by nationalist and ethnic groups, and by revolutionaries” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2012). The FBI describes terrorist as “the unlawful use of force against person or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population or any segment thereof” (FBI, 2012). As a part-time Emergency Management Director, is my responsibility and duty to see that the people residing in Oliver County are prepared should a terrorist attack occur and the communication with various locate and state agencies know their roles during this time. Also, I will explain what communication strategies are in place to effectively respond to an incident with other various agencies and the resources I will tap into. Lastly, I will identify the appropriate critical incident response according to the guidelines set forth by NIMS compliance at the local and state levels.
