This film generated a lot of controversy in more areas than one causing uproar among Christians and other viewers. This movie concentrates on the last twelve hours of Jesus Christ’s life. It contains the capture and trial of Christ followed by the unbearably painful yet graphic crucifixion that he sustained. The movie begins in the garden of Gethsemane where he is betrayed by Judas his disciple then turned over to the Jewish leaders. The most horrific sequence in the film appears when Jesus Christ is whipped and tortured by Romans removing chunks of flesh from his back. The Passion seems to have focused more on the pain and suffering of Jesus than his teachings giving the audience a very biased and one dimensional side if the story.

Even though the movie concentrated on Jesus’s sufferings, it tried to capture the ethic side of Him as well. The movie is based off of the Bible that has been and still is the most popular book in the world. The Bible is for most peoples a way of life, a book of answers, and a piece of mind. However, The Passion did not focus on the ethical part of the Bible, it still did not lose site of that.

Movie watchers fail to see that this movie was based on the last hours of his life on earth. All for His teachings and lessons are before and after the 12 hours of life the movie showed. In those 12 hours, he showed forgiveness, love, hope, passion, courage, faith, and respect toward himself and others. The background music that played throughout the movie was intense and suspicious helping foreshadow the next event. Unfortunately, do the powerful music, I feel the watchers including myself, got lost in the beatings and slaying of Jesus.
