At a glance one might believe that “On a couple’s anniversary. To truly understand this poem one should analyze line by line, taking in the different references. Find words that will express his attitude, and bring forth emotion. Finally take into consideration how the title and theme connect. “These poems, with all their crudities, doubts, and confusions, are written for the love of Man and in praise of God, and I'd be a damn' fool if they weren't”- Dylan Thomas.

“The sky is torn across.” There is conflict.”This ragged anniversary of two.” It is not a happy occasion. “Who moved for three years in tune.” Where happily married for three years.” Down the long walks of their vows. “Through the good times and bad, in sickness and health.” Now their love lies a loss.” No longer in love, as if it never existed.” And Love and his patients roar on a chain.” They feel trapped in their marriage, just waiting to break free. “From every tune or crater.” They just want to forget the whole experience, the past three years.” Carrying cloud, Death strikes their house. “They divorce.” Too late in the wrong rain.” Later they realize the opportunity to fix their marriage has passed. “They come together whom their love parted.” They meet again. “The windows pour into their hearts.” They are overcome with emotions from their three years together.” And the doors burn in their brain.” They are haunted by the memories, they shared.

Thomas’ Attitude in this poem is sorrowful, and longing. He uses words such as torn, and burn, to indicate such attitude. He uses alliteration when he says “Now their love lies a loss” to draw closer attention to the poem. Personification is used to show love as a chained animal, like a wild mustang freshly corralled. He uses a metaphor to symbolize the end of the relationship “Carrying cloud, death strikes their house”.
