Introduction:

Knowing that motivation comes from people’s need, it is important to determine the most important needs for the individual employees. Abraham Maslow has develop a model in order to classify individal employees’ need. The model is call Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and this model has been developed by Maslow whereby the lower level of needs such as physiological and safety needs are more important to fulfill than the higher level of needs such as esteem and self-actualization. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, starting from the lower level of satisfaction, when a level of need is satisfy, it does not motivate the employee anymore and the next level of need is taking place. Maslow’s theory saysthat management also have a role in motivation employees through management style, job design, company events, and compensation package.

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is classify into five major level of satisfaction: physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs and self-actualization. Each of the level of satisfaction is related to the real life.

* Physiological needs:

Physiological needs are needs required by everyone in order to survive: air, water, food and sleep. Physiological needs are needs that will satisfy my body: air will satisfy my need to stay alive, water and food are important needs that will give me energy to perform my goals. A good nutrition will keep me fit an fine for the day which will allow me to do better work and reach my goal successfully. Sleep is a need which will help me to relax my body after a hard day of work. Sleep helps me to regain all the energy lost during the day and after sleeping a new day start with a relax body and a better motivation to achieve my new goals. There are many retail promotion relating to physiological needs in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs such as: “love ur food, love your body, love your life”.
