1%! How this figure sounds to you. Too small? For the past 20 years, Canada has been accepting almost 1% of its whole population as immigrants every year. Now that is a huge number of immigrants. People from all over the world choose Canada as the most favorable country for immigration. Why do they choose Canada? Unlike other countries, the number of immigrants in Canada are enormously high. You can see various types of races and ethical people in this region. The major reasons for the large number of immigrants are security and education environment. According to recent GPI measure among 158 countries, Canada ranked 4th. As well, Canada has numerous well known universities from the world, and compared to United States, tuition is cheaper.

According to immigration law in Canada, there are 7 categories to consider. The most important three are education, language proficiency, and work experience. For case of education, they assess the achievement of education back in immigrant’s countries. For case of work experience, they ask for number of years in work area either in former country or in Canada.

There is argument about how immigrants affect Canadian labor market; whether it is positive or negative. If you look at the negative side, usually immigrants in Canada are from China, India, Philippine, and these countries are all developing countries. Their former pay from the work in their own country was much lower than the minimum payment in Canada. Since they are willing to work for less than minimum wage, this may increase the unemployment rate for Canadian workers. Also most economist argue that immigration does not contribute significantly to Canadian labor market and economy as whole. According to research done in Canada about benefits of immigration came to the common conclusion that there is in fact loss to the economy due to immigration. It is evident in the study that cost of accepting immigrant is outweigh the GDP.
