1.0 Executive Summary

This report provided analyse in the effect of climate change towards tourism sustainability, which focus on its impact to tourism attraction and vice versa, as well as the contribution of Marina Barrage (MB), as venue chosen in this report, towards climate change. MB has been one of the sustainable attraction that won Green mark Platinum Infrastructure award that recognized by Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in Singapore. Hence, the report is analysed how MB and climate change affect each other in the environment. The report comprised of four sections. The first section was about literatures review, the second section provided findings in MB and analysed based on literature review. This was followed by the limitations during findings and recommendation as the third and fourth section.

2.0 Introduction

Tourism is known as a highly climate-sensitive that is strongly influenced by environmental and socioeconomic change by climate change, and also a growing industry that contributes to anthropogenic climate change (Scott, Gössling & Hall, 2012). The interaction between tourism and climate change appeared in the mid-1980s and start being discussed in 1996 regarding its contribution to climate change through greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. Therefore, climate change has raised a concern internationally and there is a need to reduce emissions to prevent the increasing of climate change (Bows et al., 2009 as cited in Dickinson, 2010).

The aim of this report is to discuss the impacts of climate change towards tourism activities and vice versa in Singapore as destination. This report is organized into three scopes. The first scope is a set of indicators that are defined and used to evaluate sustainability in tourism destination.
