1. Introduction

Tourism Industry is one of the most successful areas distribute to the global economic in the last 40 years (Coccossis and Parpairis, 1995). At the same time, it is also bringing some environmental problems. In the essay, main focus is understand the complexity of tourism system, and recognize how people trying to develop sustainable tourism.

The first part of this essay is a briefly introduction of sustainable tourism, including mass tourism and alternative tourism, also the relationship between sustainable tourism and sustainable development.

Second part is talking about the complexity and challenges of the tourism industry, why nowadays people recognized the importance of sustainable tourism development. More and more non-governmental organizations emerged to spread the concept of sustainable development.

Finally, some strategies and solutions that maybe can help people to manage the tourism industry sustainability are discussed, followed some cases.
