You are currently an associate at an advertising agency where you have worked for two

years. You are pursuing a promotion to the position of advertising executive. While you

have expected to put in extra hours and some added responsibility as part of earning the

promotion, your boss has increased your workload significantly, including some projects

which had been assigned to other associates. You have more deadlines than you think

you can meet plus the creative pressure of creating new and innovative material for your

campaigns.

Answer each of the following questions in 50 to 75 words:

1. What steps of the general adaptation syndrome will I experience?

2. What emotional and cognitive effects might this stressor produce?

3. If this stress continues, how might it affect my health?

4. How might I resolve this situation effectively to reduce my stress?

1. Depending on how long the stress continues on, will determine the steps you encounter with general adaption syndrome. If it continues for a long period of time it is expected that the stages you will go through will be the alarm reaction. The second stage is the resistance stage, and the third is Exhaustion stage.

2. Some of the emotional and cognitive effects that this stressor could produce could be Anxiety and/ or Depression. As for cognitive effects since you are dealing with a job where you have to be creative you might find trouble with thinking clearly and staying focused on you projects.

3. If your stress continues you might find that you are getting sick more often with headaches, muscle tension, emotional tension, chronic fatigue and prolonged stress can lead up to major health problems like High blood pressure, Coronary Heart Disease, and research is even showing stress having a connection with cancer.
