Health Laws and Regulations

Many industries are regulated by the government. From the television and radio industry to the food one eats, regulations and laws help create a safe and reasonable way of life. The health care industry is no different. The laws and regulations are designed to provide a standard level of quality of care and appropriate billing practices as well as many more practices. The purpose of this assignment is to define such regulations and laws and the impact of these items in the health care industry. Included are discussions and examples of these regulations and laws that the industry is currently facing and effects of these within the industry.

“When Congress passes laws, they rarely contain enough specific language to guide their implementation completely. It is the responsibility of the federal administrative agencies to fill in the details of new or amended laws with rules and regulations” (American Nursing Assoication, Inc., 2014). Every aspect of the healthcare industry has an agency that controls and guides the many divisions.

Examples of these agencies are: Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRO), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and National Institute Aging are just few of the many agencies involved in guiding the health care industry.

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRO) provides an aid for making informed decisions for patients as well as providers. This agency also disseminates the information gathered in research projects as well as keeping the public informed of such research. Disseminating such information comes from such sources as fact sheets on specific illnesses and conditions. Also included under this disseminating factor is ensuring that research projects maintain quality and assurance standards (Services, 2006).
