Kathy Kudler, founder of Kudler Fine Foods, would like to revamp the images on the company’s website and provide actual images of their products and employees. She is proud of what they sell and would like to showcase it on their website. Team B has been given the assignment to analyze the pros and cons of outsourcing the photography to a professional photographer or creating the infrastructure to take the photos in-house. Pieces of this analysis will include legal issues, equipment costs and even the impact to day to day business operations. This analysis will conclude with Team B’s recommendation to Kathy Kudler to either outsource to a professional photographer or create it to be done in-house.

Outsourcing Photography

When trying to decide whether to outsource photography to an external photo studio many benefits come to mind. However a list of potential problems also arises.

One of the first benefits of outsourcing photography is negating the risk of photography itself. Everything from the equipment needed to produce a photograph to the responsibility of capturing a certain mood is virtually eliminated. The outsourced firm is responsible for capturing a subject just how the customer wants it. They provide their own equipment to take the photos, such as a DLSR camera and lighting stands. All this equipment is extremely expensive. The initial investment for photography equipment could be upwards of $15,000.00 (Lorenz, 2010). It also allows the person or business to not waste time on others attempting to add their two-cents to how they think the shot should be taken. Outsourcing this task also lets someone who is experienced and trained to perform tasks that others who are less experienced might not be able to complete.
