Summary
This paper is a review of David N. Entwistle, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and
Christianity: An Introduction to Worldview Issues, Philosophical Foundations, and Models of
Integration. Enwistle (2010) opens the door of discovery through the history of theology and
psychology or science, discussing the beginning of the two disciplines. Entwistle (2010, p.15),
discusses the Athens (“secular knowledge”) and Jerusalem (“sacred knowledge”) in that these
two schools of thought and processes have been at odds with each other through the centuries.
Entwistle (2010, p. 64), suggests we evaluate the merits of our worldview. Examining our
assumptions, to see if they are biblically acceptable and that we listen to others about their
experiences and worldviews. This is the basic elements of developing our Christian worldview.
Through the centuries, there have been specific timeframes which have influenced the theories of
integration of theology and psychology, the Enlightenment, positivism, empiricism, modernism
and postmodernism, have all impacted the worldviews that are held today.
