Boeing 787 Dreamliner Network

For this case study assignment I was task to look into the Boeing 787 Dreamliner network security. After viewing some videos there were some questions I have to answer. What network technologies are used to provide in-flight entertainment system (IFE) in the Boeing 787? What benefits, do you suppose, are derived from the using a common network for all onboard systems? Comment on the security concern. Do you feel there is risk? Explain why or why not.

The network technologies I saw that were used where the in-flight wireless entertainment. With this cabin service the passage is able to connect their wireless devices with the planes wireless connection. They are able to connect to the internet and do everyday activities while in flight to their location. This not only gives the passage a better flying experience but the passage is able to do their work. The benefits I see that are derived from using a common network for all onboard systems. This gives the user access to many entertainment functions that are not available on other flights. Since they are common network the passengers are familar with the network. There’s no need for the passengers to learn or ask questions to access the network. Do I feel there is a risk? Yes I feel there is a risk. On the video the passengers were able to plug in there devices into the plane connections to get a connection or charge the batteries. This alone is a huge risk not only to the plane but to the passengers as well. A hacker can plug into the plane and hack the system and access to the plane controls. Since an average person travel with three devices that requires recharging. The plane alone holds 300 people if all devices are plugged in that can easy over load the system causing a fire or worst a crash.
