Health-Time Case Study

Health-Time has made a great name for itself. When management changed things began to fall apart and the new manager, Matt James, tried to turn things back around. When doing this he just pushed people away and made for an environment where people did not really want to work. Matt really cared about Health-Time as before he became manager he was an instructor and really wanted to see it succeed. The problem was that Matt had no management experience and just wanted to change things at the drop of a hat and not give his employees a say in anything. We will take a look at different motivational problems that Matt had when he became manager.

When you look at Maslow’s Needs Hierarchy it stats there are five primary needs and they are innate and universal. These five primary needs are: physiological, safety, belongingness/love, esteem, and self-actualization. Physiological refers to the need for food, air, water, shelter and the like and is the most basic need. This is the need that is filled first by anyone. Matt’s employees were fulfilling this need. Safety refers to the need for a secure and stable environment. When Matt took over as manager his employees had to begin to feel like they no longer had a safe and stable environment because he began changing things even though the way they were before he became manager was working just fine. Esteem refers to the need for self-esteem through personal achievement as well as social esteem through recognition and respect from others. When Matt tries to just change everything within Health-Time his employees began to lose esteem because they feel as they are no longer respected by others. Self-actualization is the need for self-fulfillment and realization of one’s potential. The employees really lose this when Matt has his meeting and just starts changing things. The employees begin to feel like they can no longer reach their full potential...
