1. Give brief definitions of the following key terms
Strategic plan
A systematic process of envisioning a desired future, and translating this vision into broadly defined goals or objectives and a sequence of steps to achieve them.
In contrast to long-term planning (which begins with the current status and lays down a path to meet estimated future needs), strategic planning begins with the desired-end and works backward to the current status.
Policy
Policies are the guiding principles of an organisation and they describe an organisation’s commitment to quality and service. Policies are the basis of an organisation’s procedures and provide the framework fro decision making in an organisation.
Process
Sequence of interdependent and linked procedures which, at every stage, consume one or more resources (employee time, energy, machines, money) to convert inputs (data, material, parts, etc.) into outputs. These outputs then serve as inputs for the next stage until a known goal or end result is reached. A series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.
Procedure
Procedures enable policies to be implemented. A fixed, step-by-step sequence of activities or course of action (with definite start and end points) that must be followed in the same order to correctly perform a task. Repetitive procedures are called routines.
Set of instructions and can also specify who needs to perform the steps.
Vision Statement
An aspirational description of what an organization would like to achieve or accomplish in the mid-term or long-term future. It is intended to serves as a clear guide for choosing current and future courses of action. See also mission statement.
