Balancing Work and School
Developing time management skills is a journey that may begin with me and how I maintain my time, but needs practice and other guidance along the way. I’m always doing things at the last minute; I have no set schedule to follow. My daily routine is getting to work by 7:30 a.m. My class is always in the cafeteria eating breakfast, by 8:00 we should be in the classroom getting ready to do the board work. So while they are doing that I will log in my class for about 30 minutes and do a discussion question or two, but like always that is sudden to change.
One goal is to help become aware of how I utilize my time as one resource in organizing, prioritizing, and succeeding in my studies also in the context of competing activities of friends, work, family, etc. It is a challenge being a special needs teacher and trying to do my work assignments, because my students require a lot one on one attention for most tasks. So normally when I have an assignment due, I will give the class an assignment to complete while we are in the computer lab. So that way they are working while I’m working on my assignments. I would like to make it a habit to start working on my class work at the beginning of the week so I won’t have to rush and try to finish my assignment at the last minute. I think these are some things that are going to help me get through all of my studies successfully. These are a few examples that will help me become organized and be successful in my completing my degree.
First of all, use your free time wisely, think of times when you can study as when walking, riding the bus, in a computer lab, or free time at work, etc. You can have study materials such as flash cards, footnotes, or read and review a chapter. The bottom line is to put your time to good use. Understand what you are doing and try to communicate with you...
