The difference between an issue and a problem is that when there is an issue it can typically be solved with a quick and easy solution. Whereas a problem requires more time, effort and involvement it is not something that is easily tackled by one individual. Size is another area where issues and problems differ. Issues are typically smaller and not as life altering as problems can be. Issues also can be steppingstones for problems using an example from the Kudler’s Strategic Plan article Kathy worries about her health. Kathy handles all the financial aspects of Kudler Fine Foods if she was to ever become too ill to work the issue of her health could become a problem. In this example Kathy’s health is only an issue because the potential has yet to be realized so it has not yet become a problem. Another issue for Kudler Fine Foods is their lack of an external website. This issue has an easily accessible solution, which is to develop a website so Kudler Fine Foods can connect with out-of-area customers. The Del Mar location of Kudler Fine Foods is not doing as well as expected. This issue has not yet become a problem because the store is still staying profitable, but it could mutate if business becomes worse. The solution to this issue is to open a new store in Carlsbad which is close to Del Mar and have the new Carlsbad store absorb the Del Mar store. With the expansion of Kudler Fine Foods it becomes increasingly difficult for Kathy to keep up with all of the financial aspects of her business. Kathy keeps such small management staff with so many responsibilities this issue is another that could eventually mutate into a problem if she continues to stretch herself and her staff so thin.
