Superhero as Savior

Without hero’s the world would be in outer chaos. Every city and every town needs someone that will stand up for what’s right in the world and protect those who need it. They are our guardians they may not come when we want them to but they will always be there when we need them. But we as the protected have to realize that our heroes are not gods they are human and they will make mistakes so we should not put them on this high pedestal.

The Dark Knight and Unbreakable are two movies that have a conflicted hero battling himself and his desire to feel normal all at once. Another conflict is with the protagonist in the movie; Charles Bellinger says, “If human beings are copying the desires of other human beings, the stage is set for envy, rivalry, conflict, and violence.” So they are stuck with the question should they stay or should they go. In these films each main character will realize that life would not be safe without them and that it is their duty to save the world.

The Dark Knight is a movie about Batman and his new archenemy the Joker. Batman tries to show Gotham city that crime can be stopped by one person that stands up and says enough. But what he really starts is frenzy and people copying him as a masked avenger, and Girard calls this, “Mimetic desire.” People have said they want to be safe and feel safe in their own city and see Batman trying to accomplish this. They then begin to act out their desire out in response to what they see Batman doing. And Batman begins to have his own problems. The Cities District Attorney, Harvey Dent, begins to condemn Batman. He believes that justice can be handled by the law and does not have to be conducted by Batman anymore. This then makes Batman feel inadequate and useless because he feels he is not needed anymore. So he starts looking at Harvey Dent as Gotham’s new hero because Harvey doesn’t have to fight as Batman does he just uses his knowledge to defeat the criminals. But as Harvey...
