Huffman Trucking Service Request SR-ht-003 Project

Huffman Trucking is a leading national freight transportation company founded by K. Huffman in 1936 in the city of Cleveland, OH. This company was recognized as the first major freight carrier to outsource 100% of its IT support. Huffman Trucking employs 925 drivers and 425 maintenance and other support personnel. They own over 800 semi-trucks, over 2,100 45 foot trailers, and maintain regional distribution centers in Los Angeles, CA, St. Louis, MS, and Bayonne, NJ. Huffman Trucking Company’s customers consist of auto parts suppliers, electronic consumer products suppliers, polymer materials suppliers for manufacturers of plastics, and the United States Government (Apollo Group, Inc., 2012P). Due to continued company growth, Learning Team A has been given the opportunity to assist Huffman Trucking with the creation of a new database that will ultimately manage the maintenance of their trucks and ensure the implementation of a user-friendly database that contains accurate data.

Huffman Trucking enlisted the services of Smith Services Consulting to create documentation outlining the necessary elements of the database. The consultants based their findings on the interviews they conducted with individuals that utilize the fleet truck maintenance database.

Eleven tables were created to ensure the beginning and ending of successful maintenance. These tables include: Maintenance Work Order, Vehicles, Vehicle Types, Maintenance Descriptions, Tire Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Parts Purchasing History, Vendors, Parts Catalogue, Parts Inventory Issues, and Parts Inventory Purchases.
