After countless surgeries on my femur, which is the longest bone in the human body, I thought I was in the clear. I received major surgery because I was born with a congenital short femur, five inches shorter than the left leg. The surgery installed an external fixator that I kept for a year and a half. I stretched my leg while being bed ridden by turning six bolts with a wrench every day. It was very crazy and painful. I shed a lot of tears and blood during this process. Finally the day comes remove the external fixator and the same day I receive abnormal pain right where the new bone was, turns out my newly grown bone wasn’t strong enough yet without the fixator and it cracked almost in half.

When the doctor told me the news I was shocked and I felt like it was all for nothing. Out of school and work for almost two years I had enough of being locked up in a bed with major pain. Even though I felt like giving up I didn’t. One of the things I like about myself the most is that I always gain wisdom. I stopped having a negative perspective on the situation and started to embrace the fact that I was blessed to add to my limb while others get theirs taken away.

I reacted negatively first because it was very hard adopting the fact that I would be bed ridden for an extended time. My motivation, which turned my attitude around, was my talents and the fact that someone always has it worse than me. I was lucky. Through this revolutionary journey I discovered myself.
