Management and Leadership

“University of Phoenix” is much like other organizations. The crew consists of leaders, managers, teams working together, goals to create, goals to accomplish, and an overall job to get done. When it is broke down one class can be compared to a branch of the organization, the class facilitator is the manager and the students are the employees. The management of the University of Phoenix has proven that the term management is interchangeable with leadership but there is a difference between the two. Within this organization the managers play important roles with important responsibilities in creating and maintain a healthy organizational culture. The duties that they perform and the impact they deliver has an effect internationally.

The Difference between a manager and leader

A good leader must have a combination of skills as well as the right characteristics while influencing others to reach his or her goals. Their communication should be precise, clear, secure, and trusting. An individual with leadership qualities should be able to eliminate worry from failure by working in an honest, competent, intelligent, straightforward, and imaginative manner. Effective leaders adapt to their surroundings, have a clear vision of the final project and know how to get to the finish line. The instructors at the University of Phoenix are a form of managers. They have specific duties and tasks required to be done by each of their employees (students) and the job of the manager is to teach leadership. “Leadership creates an accountable team environment by passing the torch of success on to others” (Kumble & Kelly, 2006) done by completion of tasks. However, at any given time, the manager may act as a leader. During an interview with an instructor at The Milan Institute, Kristi Kidd, a dental assistant class facilitator was asked is she considered herself a leader or a manager.
