Characteristics of Orientalism, Prejudice and Discrimination

The difference between an Arab and a Muslim is that an Arab lives in the Middle East and Africa. The Arabia Muslims are people who follow the Islamic religion, while Arabs are associated with the Islamic religion, not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arabs, in fact, Arabs can be Jewish, Atheists or Christians. The Muslims are an ethnic group and can be or Asian, African, North American or European. Many people have discriminated against people whom they think are Arabs and Muslims since the 911 attacks and due to many Islamic terrorists’ organizations in the world and their threats and attacks on different populations.

Even though many of these people do not believe in what these terrorists have done and they are good people, The Government has made it very difficult since September 11, 2001 for Muslims and Arabs to immigrate to the United States or apply for Citizenship or permanent residence classification. At one time if someone was suspected of wrong acts against the United States, there had to be a warrant issued to search their homes in order to obtain evidence to charge them for illegal activities. Now the Government has the right to use wiretaps or searches to check on Arabs and Muslims that are suspected of unlawful acts.

When people are threatened and attacked it creates a sense of fear and causes many people to become ignorant of many things , that is why we need to study and learn what we can before we make hasty decisions that could widen the barrier between us and many good people. We need to read and learn more about these people and realize that many terrible things have happened in our Country and they were not Arab and Muslim related.
