EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The purpose of this report was to analyse the prospective business environment overseas for Brookfield Multiplex (BM). Specific objectives were to rationalise the choice of the target country - China, identify some key factors affecting business and provide some advice on entry strategy to the executives concerned. In achieving this, extensive analysis of the environment in China was conducted, with the assessment of the potential opportunities and risks.

In the process, although regulatory risks were located in China’s legal-political and financial environment, the economic slow-down mostly attributes to the strict reforms enforced by the government, indicating that there is a potential for structural growth. Consequently, this report recommends some modest entry strategies for the company; that they should remain cautious on Chinese construction market in the short run, but stay optimistic with initiatives in the long term.
