According to Dictionary.com, a manager is “someone who has control or direction of an institution, business, etc., or a part, division, or phase of it.” The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a manager is commitment. There is no time for slacking, or laziness. One must be on top of their game, and have the ability to think wisely. They must be able to motivate their employees and encourage positive attitudes. After all, management is getting work done through others.

I strongly believe that a good manager must have the ability to communicate and connect with their employees. Communication is the foundation of all things. Even in the form of body language, the way you carry yourself as you walk is a way of communicating to the world even if you say nothing at all. You must also learn to speak respectfully with one another. For example, if you accidentally press the wrong button on the computer screen, and your manager sees that and then yells at you for it, odds are that is going to affect you in some type of way. One of the top ten mistakes managers make, according to Principles of Management, “insensitive to others: abrasive, intimidating, bullying style,” (Williams, 2015) is exactly what I’m trying to explain. It would be ideal if our managers would calmly talk to us, and give us constructive criticism. As a manager, they need to understand that we are human. We are going to make mistakes, just like I’m almost positive that they do too. But it is their job to teach, and train us, and figure out ways to limit situations like that from happening.

A good manager must have the skills to lead the company/business and employees working for them. The company they are with clearly has to have a mission, a reason for being in business, and the employees must also be able to follow in the direction that the company is going.
