Actions on society and stakeholders: An examination of the social performance of The Body Shop

Corporate Social responsibility has become a very hot topic globally in today’s business environment and it is also an integral part of a firm's business strategy. One useful definition of CSR is that it requires ”the continuing commitment by business to behaving ethically and contributing to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the community and society at large.”(Ronald R,2003,43).The Body Shop International plc is a high-quality facial skin and body care products retailer, which was founded in England in 1976 by Anita Roddick. It is a large international company. The Body Shop has businesses in 61 countries around the world. And the number of stores over the world is about 2400 .The following paper will examine the actions of the body shop on society and stakeholders with regards to fulfilling social needs within society. The argument will divide into positive and negative impacts this company has on today’s society.

The case for The Body Shop

At the beginning When The Body Shop was founded by Anita Roddick. They have always against to the animal testing .They do not do animal testing and use r scientific methods instead of animal testing. Strictly examine on raw material suppliers. And never purchase the ingredients which have tested on animals before. The Body Shop always adhere the principle of “nature”. Always use nature ingredients to create all kinds of cosmetics and skin care products until today. Anita Roddick,the founder of The Body Shop promote some public awareness activities and finally by the help of the enterprise partners .The Body Shop gain a lot of support from the cosmetic industry and the consumers.
