Introduction

Women throughout history and today have always strived to be treated fairly and equally in the workplace. In today’s society, women are trailblazing paths for people of all genders to follow and emulate. You will see that the women mentioned below have all had to use various leadership styles in order to succeed. I will compare and contrast the ways in which the women in this article succeed in gaining real power at work and discuss and compare those different traits.

Main Body

Looking at the article, there are a lot of powerful and influential women who are doing great things at their respective companies. They have proved that you can use various leadership styles and become successful in your endeavors. Here are some observations that I made after careful examination.

Sharon Patrick views her leadership style as a gathering type of approach. She says that instead of trying to employ the aggressive style that a man would use in order to make his competition submit to his will, she collaborates and focuses on finding common ground and exploring solutions in order to come to an understanding (Fast Company, 1998). Linda Chavez-Thompson said that what she has seen through her experiences is that her aggressive leadership approach is more masculine and is what works best for her. She learned that in order for her to be taken seriously, she had to adapt and become as hard as nails as the men in the room were (Fast Company, 1998). I believe that she relied on the legitimate leadership style. This aggressive style garnered her a lot of respect wherever she went. She would not take a back seat to anyone; she demanded to be respected and not to be taken lightly when she made decisions.
