Process Improvement Plan

“Statistical process control (SPC) involves using statistical techniques to measure and analyze the variation in processes. Most often used for manufacturing processes, the intent of SPC is to monitor product quality and maintain processes to fixed targets. Statistical quality control refers to using statistical techniques for measuring and improving the quality of processes and includes SPC in addition to other techniques, such as sampling plans, experimental design, variation reduction, process capability analysis, and process improvement plans” (sandia.gov,2010, page 1). SPC has the capacity to offer a vital analytical tool to adequately recognize if a process contains any defects. In addition, SPC makes it easier to make a decision regarding any variation pertaining to quality control and its capacity to become more efficient. I used statistical process control in the process that I created about doing my laundry. I was able to see the main bottleneck in the process because of the documentation that I kept throughout the process. This will help me to form a useful process improvement plan.

The control chart (Figure 1.1) contains the measurements of the first four weeks which have been plotted (Figure 1.2) based on each day of the week and the amount of time it took to complete a load of laundry. Proper statistical analysis, in combination with suitable planning, offers valuable data in order to make appropriate decisions based on the pertinent data which was collected. Planning is essential when it comes to the evaluation of such a process in order to reach the best possible outcome (Chase et al., 2005).

A possible explanation for the variation in the amount of time it takes to complete a load of laundry is due to the fact there is a hindrance pertaining to the user’s ability to complete the load., for example, if the user has an adequate supply of detergent or not.
