People are faced with the dilemma of deciding what to eat three times a day. And that decision is ultimately up to the individual person. When someone chooses to buy unhealthy food from a grocery store they are essentially voting for a particular food item to be produced. Consumers often times do not believe that they have any control about what is made available to them in a grocery store. But in reality they have the ability to directly influence the products produced by choosing not to buy it. The industrialized food system is a big business and it is concerned with turning a profit. And if there is no profit to be made on unhealthy food then they will produce food that is profitable. Thus if consumers are able to determine the type of food produced, then they do have a moral responsibility towards the food they put in their bodies. If consumers are unhappy with how unhealthy food has become then they need to stop contributing to the detrimental cycle by choosing not to buy unhealthy foods. Also when it comes to meat people choose to eat it, which is why so much of it is produced in such shamble conditions. There are alternatives to meat such as a vegetarian diet which can supplement the nutrition provided by consuming meat products. And by continuing to buy meat products from companies that keep their animals in bad conditions then we as a consumer are further perpetuating their practices. The quality and nutritional value of much of the food that is consumed has gone down over the years due to the industrialized food system. Everyone has a moral responsibility towards what they eat on a daily basis, and it is up to the individual consumer to help change the food system.
