We are writing a paper about academic honesty in higher education, why you ask? One of the classes there is a charge of violation of the Student Code of Academic Integrity. In the assignment that was turned in there was not proper citation when the paper was turned into the instructor? Being an adult student for a very long time and there are not any proper classes to give training on what is expected of an adult student when writing an assignment except for the policy and procedure from the university has as part of the Student Code Book.

According to (Gambescia, 2007, A Best Practice Protocol for Handling Academic Honesty issues With Adult Students, para 3, p.47 ) “ Shortcomings in adult student preparedness for academic honesty stem from a variety of factors, such as their forgotten or vague recollection of academic honesty from their prior and often distant academic experiences. Academic honesty and information literacy awareness and education initiatives may not have diffused to the non-traditional students, especially those students who are earning away from the main campus or at worksites. More problematic is the recognition that adult students are coming from environments, both as part of our general culture and in their places of work that have seriously blurred the meaning of original work, fair assessment of an individual’s performance, and honesty.” The author speaks about the environment adult students came from which occurred earlier for higher learning and the earliest experience is where my father made me go to the kitchen table to work on my assignments and when I couldn’t arrive at the spelling of a word correct or a math problem solved, he would use the wall of the kitchen as his blackboard and have me write the problem on the wall and stay in the kitchen until I got the correct spelling or the math problem issue.
