Information Systems and Software Applications

It seems that to properly start off this course it is important to understand the basics of what Information systems are in the business environment. The purposes of information systems are to facilitate the process of information sharing within a business. Information systems help to get the right information to the right people at the right time and in the right way. (Rainer, 2008) In this day and age businesses can take advantage of the vast amount of software applications to help them with this purpose. In the following paragraphs we take a look at three distinct organizational departments within a company and learn how software applications can make their functions all the more efficient for the good of the business.

First we take a look at the human resources department. This department basically maintains the peace within the employees of a company. They head up the training, compensation and recruiting departments. This department serves as advocates for not only the company but also their employees while balancing needs from both sides to maintain harmony. (Heathfield, 2010) When looking for appropriate applications to help them in the department it is important to look for software that can be accommodated to the purpose of the company. One such application I found is the Halogen Employee Performance & Talent Management Software. This software is really helpful in that it has a simple user interface that helps in the process of creating employee appraisal, training and even development planning and it can be easily adjusted to the vision of the company.
