Can the U.S. regain its manufacturing predominance in a globalized society

For the United States to continue to have an edge in the global society there are a few things that it has to overcome. The manufacturing in the united states has never really recovered from the recession in 2000-2003 and the massive layoffs in 2005. In the years from 2000-2003 2.8 million jobs were lost due to layoffs by the end of 2005 14 million people still worked in manufacturing currently United states manufacturing accounts for about 14% of the United States total goods and services. The recession of manufacturing that occurred in 2000 has been recovering very slowly what does that mean for the future of the united states?

The current issues in manufacturing industry cut backs from government funded research, high health care and pension plans have been a burden on the manufacturing industry. Other than those factors high wages and taxes have been quite the burden of manufacturing. There continue to be many companies that are moving jobs overseas most of these lost jobs are being replaced by service related jobs but none the less it's still results in the steady decline of the manufacturing industry in the United States. There were also jobs lost in manufacturing industry due to NAFTA act that was put in place by the government to help increase manufacturing jobs for Mexico resulting in more manufacturing jobs. NAFTA was used to reduce the price of certain goods to the United States and Canada.

The comeback of the manufacturing sector of the United States? I really don't feel like we will ever get our edge back in manufacturing as more underdeveloped countries than the United States become more industrialized. Their Labor and Wage standards our lower then what a more developed countries due to the standard of living and lax government regulations.
