Developing Management Skills

Introduction

Management is the act of controlling, managing and coordinating use of resources by a group of individuals to complete a task. A good manager should understand well the various management designs. These are autocratic, which involves unilateral decision-making; paternalistic, which involves regarding a group member when making a choice; democratic, in which choices are made based on common opinion held by team members and passive, where the manager delegate all responsibility to team members while he or she supervises.

Good management means integrating well the skills of preparing, organizing and controlling. In order to achieve this, a manager should be able to strike a balance and perform each one of them carefully in order to improve the organization’s image and increase the productivity.

An effective manager regards people as the most important asset. Therefore, the employees must be highly motivated since their efficient servire delivery is central in giving a competitive advantage . well trained, coached and motivated staff are important in the development and implementation of strategies. In today’s world, management alone can no longer assure the company’s competitiveness. Delegation of duties to the empowered staff can produce the desired results in time and within the company’s budget.

Steps of improving employees motivation.

It is not true that more money leads to employees satisfaction. A highly motivated employee always produces high returns than the one who earns a lot but is quite demoralized. The management should recognize or give attention to a successfully accomplished task and appreciate it. A good manager should applaud the staff for specific achievements, wherever and whenever it is possible.
