The environment is currently in a dangerous state. One of the most dangerous issues is global warming. According to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, global warming is a phenomenon causes by greenhouse gases becoming trapped in the atmosphere and raising the temperature. This is directly related to the level of carbon dioxide in the air. As the level of CO2 rises, so does the temperature. In the modern era, people pollute the air with CO2 with carbon dioxide through everyday transportation.

Other dangers to the environment include the depletion of the ozone layer. This is also caused by rising levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. As the ozone layer depletes, more infrared rays from the sun are able to penetrate the atmosphere. With the Earth’s temperature heating up from the greenhouse gases, the ice at the north and south poles is melting quickly. The infrared rays normally bounce off the ice at the poles and exit the atmosphere. With the ice melting, the infrared rays land in the ocean and begin to heat it up. This is extremely dangerous to the environment.

Species depletion is another environmental issue we are currently facing. With the temperature and water heating up, sea ice is melting. Ice in Antarctica has fallen by 150 million mil. since 1920. This is causing species such as polar bears to die off as a result of not having land to live on, and not having prey to hunt. Currently, humans are not doing much successfully to lower the use of carbon dioxide in the air. This makes the current state of the environment very fragile. Action must be taken now, or many casualties will occur as a result of the rising temperature and the atmosphere’s admission of infrared rays.
