This Learnscape will carry over the themes and content from Week 5. Inspired by the video and discussions in Week 5, the student will dig deeper into the issue of adolescent drug abuse. In this Learnscape, the student will explore a variety of different sources of information to further investigate this problem. In this process, the student will read an article, view a blog posting, watch a Podcast, and engage in a discussion with a knowledgeable source. As the student gathers this information, they will keep a "notebook" of their observations and identify how credible they believe the information to be. In addition, the student will determine whether this information supports or contradicts the problem, as they understand it.

Within the scenario, the student will be evaluating the policies enacted at two Junior High Schools in an attempt to deal with drug problems within the school. The first school will employ a drug free zone that combines a mix of school policies and community involvement. The second school will rely on school policies alone and will take a more proactive approach utilizing searches of lockers and students. In this scenario, the student will evaluate the policies from each school. In the second assessment, the student will distinguish the problem from the issue and compare steps in refining solutions to a problem and in resolution of issues. This second assessment will consist of a drag and drop form where students will distinguish the problem from the issue and correctly link and order the appropriate steps.
